Marcus Oscar Ibarra
photographer, retoucher, creative director, artist, marketer, analyst, talent management
Marcus Ibarra grew up an artist. Having entered the world of photography after learning the principles of drawing, painting & color, he began his understanding of photography in a traditional darkroom in schooling. Marcus Ibarra created everything from his own “rayographs” to contact sheets to multiple exposures across 3 years of photography in school. With this traditional understanding of photography and all its practice, merging his love for color and creativity, Ibarra was able to quickly take note from his teachers, mentors, and inspirations to form their own creative vision and pieces of artwork. His schooling culminated in 3 Scholastic Gold Keys, showings in Houston’s Galleria, 2 Texas VASE awards and a profound appreciation for creativity & art.
In college, Ibarra began utilizing his vision in the fashion and art worlds with publications in Spark Magazine, Cove Magazine, Skin Magazine and Glaze Magazine. In addition, Ibarra continued to develop and share their own artistic vision, utilizing portraiture to convey core themes and explore photography techniques. Whilst sharing their work on social media, Ibarra’s work has reached over 500,000 unique accounts across Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.
Refusing to portray anything but real, pulling from their own lived experiences, Ibarra’s work touches on death, life, love, presence, heartbreak, addiction, religion, mental health, happiness and spirituality to name a few. His portraiture ranges from soft, glamorous & sheen, i.e. “Drip” and “Gleam”, or riveting, grungy and dark as seen in “Know Your Shadow” and “Purity”.
Regardless, there is a creativity, understanding of light, multiple exposure, filters, and combinations of these elements that distinguish Ibarra’s work. With over 500 rolls of film shot, Ibarra is constantly ideating, experimenting and iterating between his mindful photography, fashion, & portraiture work. Ibarra hopes to continue to shoot portraiture, fashion, and documentary photography to convey their creative vision, core values, inspire and help others in doing the same.
